Smart locks for West Delray gated communities (33446)

Smart locks work brilliantly in a Pineapple Grove condo where the Wi-Fi router sits 15 feet from the front door. They struggle in a Seven Bridges estate where the router is in a back office 90 feet and three stucco walls away from the deadbolt. That signal-loss problem is the single biggest reason smart-lock installs fail in 33446 - the lock pairs, you walk away happy, and three weeks later the app says "offline" every other day.

Battery life is 4 AA, replaced once a year. The keypad is backlit. It works with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Home (Encode Plus model). Finish options that match HOA palettes: satin nickel, aged bronze, matte black. Encode Plus adds Apple HomeKey tap-to-unlock for $50 more.

Why it wins in 33446: Z-Wave bridges the Wi-Fi gap. A homeowner can run a Z-Wave hub one room closer to the door and skip the signal loss entirely.

Model 2 - August Wi-Fi Smart Lock 4th Gen ($279 installed)

The retrofit favorite. August installs over your existing interior deadbolt thumb-turn - the exterior keyway stays Schlage, Medeco, or whatever was there. Auto-unlock via Bluetooth when your phone enters the geo-fence. The Connect Wi-Fi feature is built into the latest 4th gen (no separate bridge needed for most installs), but a bridge is recommended for 33446 stucco homes - it plugs in 15 feet from the lock and rebroadcasts.

Why it wins in 33446: cheapest option, keeps existing high-security cylinder. The right pick if you already have a Medeco M3 you do not want to give up.

Model 3 - Yale Assure Lock 2 with Wi-Fi ($399 installed)

The push-button keypad design. Wi-Fi built in (no bridge), works with Yale Access app + Apple Home + Alexa + Google. Battery life 4 AA, 12 - 18 months. Keypad has a private code feature for housekeeping and pool service that auto-expires. Finishes: satin nickel, oil-rubbed bronze, polished brass.

Why it wins in 33446: the keypad is the cleanest-looking aesthetically for Mizner CC Mediterranean and Tuscany Mediterranean architecture. Architectural review boards have approved it on file at both communities.

Model 4 - Kwikset Halo Touch ($369 installed)

The fingerprint reader pick. Touch-to-unlock with a Wi-Fi network for remote management. 50-fingerprint capacity (pool service, dog walker, housekeeping, family). Battery 4 AA, 12 month life. Finishes: satin nickel, Venetian bronze, matte black.

Why it wins in 33446: the fingerprint is genuinely useful for households with multiple pool / cleaning / dog services. The downside is the fingerprint sensor needs cleaning quarterly in coastal humidity - we leave a microfiber cloth on the install handoff.

What about Ultraloq, Lockly, or Aqara?

We install Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro ($499 - $549) for homeowners who want fingerprint + keypad + Wi-Fi without a hub. It is excellent. It is also the priciest option. Lockly Vision Doorbell ($549+) we install on request but the West Delray Wi-Fi range issue affects it heavily; we recommend a Wi-Fi mesh upgrade before the install. Aqara U100 ($329) works in 33446 only with Aqara Hub M2 added; not recommended for first-time smart-lock owners.

The HOA finish + architectural review step

Both Addison Reserve and Mizner Country Club require a finish that matches the community palette.
