1924 Russell + Erwin mortise lock saved instead of replaced
Wednesday early afternoon - Marina Historic District homeowner called because her 1924 Russell + Erwin mortise lock had stopped turning. Her contractor wanted to rip it out and replace with a modern Schlage.
We took the mortise apart, cleaned 100 years of compressed brass dust, lubricated the linkage, replaced one broken spring with a period-correct match (we have a parts drawer for exactly this), and re-pinned to a fresh brass key. The historic lock continues serving its 102nd year. $145.
Period-correct rekey + repair is a small but loyal Marina Historic call type. We have a parts drawer for Yale F-series, Russell + Erwin, and Corbin original parts.
