Every car built since 1996 has a transponder chip embedded in the key. The chip talks to the car's immobilizer through the ignition cylinder; if the chip doesn't authenticate, the engine cuts fuel and the car will start briefly then die. This is why a key that mechanically turns the ignition but won't start the engine is almost always a transponder problem, not a mechanical one.
Premier programs transponder keys through your car's OBD-II port using the manufacturer's pairing protocol. Each make has its own routine: Toyota uses the G or H chip, Honda uses HiTag2 or Megamos, Ford uses 80-bit or 128-bit, Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep use the FCA WIN module, Tesla uses LTE fob + key card pairing through the vehicle's touchscreen menu.
